Explore Erg Chebbi
Merzouga is a small town on the edge of the Sahara Desert in southeastern Morocco, in the Drâa-Tafilalet region. It sits directly beside Erg Chebbi, a sea of golden sand dunes that rise up to around 150 metres — among the highest in the country.
The dunes shift constantly with the wind, creating a landscape that looks different every day. Local Berber (Amazigh) communities have lived around this desert for generations, and their culture, hospitality, and knowledge of the terrain shape much of what makes Merzouga special.
